What is innovation? At ASAE, we define it as a new or significantly improved program, product, service, or process that adds value. It can be incremental or radical, but it comes down to this: a new idea that gets successfully implemented.

ASAE Learning is seeking Great Ideas Conference proposals within the functional areas of association management, aimed at a foundational, applied, or strategic knowledge level. Proposed content should help associations become innovators and reflect the newest thinking in our field, informed by theory, research, and practice.

Submit a proposal that:

  • Reflects innovation and cutting edge content
  • Targets either new, mid-career, or seasoned professionals
  • Stimulates and provokes discussion and breakthrough thinking
  • Provides diverse instructional approaches for different types of learners
  • Demonstrates application of better solutions that meet new market requirements

Plan Your Submission
You’ll be able to submit your proposals through the online submission form in May 2017, so now is a great time to begin collecting your thoughts. Session and workshop proposals require clear and concise titles, succinct and persuasive descriptions, and well-thought-out learning objectives/take-aways that put the emphasis on participants acquiring and practicing new skills, rather than simply receiving knowledge or discussing perspectives.

How are Conference Programs Developed?
A methodology that widely solicits content proposals and combines input of peers, volunteer leaders, and professional staff is designed to help ASAE ensure that the members of the association management community have a significant voice in co-creating conference programs. Together we craft an inclusive opportunity for all current and future ASAE members in the association management profession to engage in exceptional formal and informal learning experiences that support career development, increase individual productivity, and help organizations in the association community to achieve superior results. 

  1. Peer Reviewers
    Diverse peer input is very important in terms of shaping the look and feel of the 2018 conference content. Who knows what our community wants to see on the program better than our members? Selected through an open call to all members, more than 200 ASAE member volunteers acted as peer reviewers, anonymously rating blinded proposals within their area(s) of expertise. 
     
  2. Program Advisory Committee
    A group of 15 to 20 industry experts from the ASAE volunteer leadership, including representatives invited from Section Council and Committees, membership and past content leadership convene to provide insights on overall content strategy, advise on themes, and to review and prioritize feedback on all submissions.
     
  3. ASAE Staff
    With years of experience in association management and a long history programming this event, selected members of ASAE staff weigh in with feedback and strike a balance between new and veteran speakers. Staff also help ensure content lineup is strategically aligned, working to systematically identify and fill gaps where appropriate.
